Family ~
This past weekend we had the chance to spend time with Nick's family down in Opp, Al. What a joy it was to get to see them and spend some time just sharing family stories and getting to know them. Ofcourse it probably wasn't as relaxing for the Debbie and Donnie but man they sure did make us feel relaxed and at home!
It has been a while since I've really posted so I thought I would just share about our weekend. It was the famous "Rattlesnake Rodeo" Opp, AL is famous for holding one every year in the spring. Everyone begins rounding up Rattlesnakes and brings them in to sale for this special event. Most people get 40.00 per snake - once all the snakes are brought in they weight them , measure their size and then determine which one is the biggest Rattler... Then they award the winner as much as 1000.00! I know- Get going, find you a snake! NOT!
I don't think even 1000.00 can get me out hunting snakes..
It rained all weekend but it was nice and very relaxing. We fished off their 3 acer pond and enjoyed the peaceful setting of being out in the country.
Debbie and Donnie have a sweet family and they welcomed us in and made us feel like family. They gave a bridle shower to one of the couples in their family. It was a cultural experience to say the least. :) Being able to see extended family, church family, community friends interact was something of a rarity. Can you imagine, having oh 2 generations growing up in the same town and that population only being about 7,000. It was a treat to hear the stories and see them all interact. We have no idea what that is like. I mean, it was special to see this and to think what a rich family history Nick comes from and one that is so blessed with wonderful family both immediate and extended through the community.
It was a joy to spend time with the Franklin clan and we look forward to getting to do this again real soon!
Here's the cool thing, we are so alike it's not even funny. We all laughed and shared stories of our kids, of which I'm sure Nick and Kayla were worried at one point they both just laughed and walked out! :) We had a great time making new friends and meeting so many wonderful people.
So that was our weekend - more to come in the days ahead...
I have some pictures I'll post soon!
