The Coup in Thailand....

There is never a dual moment in our lives that is for sure!

The kids and I are fine. It was a calm and very uneventful day for us here in Chiang Mai. ALL government establishments were closed including schools. Not sure what tomorrow will hold but we are told we might have another day off but we will have to wait until the word comes down from those incontrol. At this point the Marshall law has not yet be raised. They have restored all Television and radio services. I was told that in Bangkok they shut down internet service as well. I'm thankful they didn't do that here.

I ventured out to see if the local grocery was open and it was which was a good thing. We had some kids over and they all enjoyed our milk :) . It was shocking though to see armed military men at the main intersection just about 2 km from our home. Again though it has been really calm. I heard from some folks though that in the down town area there were lots of TANKS and a show of arms around the down town city of Chiang Mai. I'm so thankful we live out of the city :) .......

Many of you know Dwayne was scheduled to fly out of Atlanta at 1am on the 19th and is scheduled to land in Bangkok this morning around 1am on the 21st. I have just heard from CNN that all flights in and out of Thailand are running. I was thankful to hear that and so I'm so thankful. I'm ready for my husband to come home.

It's been raining all day and this might have added to the calm feeling I've felt but on the whole it really has been very calm considering we are under Martial law.

This is what the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok has issued on their site:
"A group calling itself the Committee for Democratic Reform under the Monarchy as Head of State has seized control of the government institutions in Bangkok and declared martial law.

The military has deployed troops around key government facilities and other strategic locations around Bangkok.

There are no indications of any violence at this point.

We advise all American Citizens to continue to monitor the situation closely, avoid any large gatherings and exercise discretion when moving about the city.

At this point, we are not advising Americans to leave Thailand; however, Americans planning to travel to Thailand may wish to carefully consider their options before traveling until the situation becomes clearer.

The Embassy will continue to follow developments closely. If there is any important information regarding the security of US citizens the Embassy will post it on the U.S. Embassy Bangkok and Department of State websites."

Well, I'll close for now- Don't worry we are safe and sound......
